Welcome messages
By Kristoffer Bohmann, Bohmann Usability
Welcome messages. Most welcome message on homepages are not necessary. Typically, welcome messages take up 5-10 lines in a central spot to tell new users what the business is all about. Introducing the business can be done in better ways, including:
- Design the homepage as one, big welcome message aimed at new and return users. List as many details and links as possible.
- Avoid the word Welcome.
- Clearly state the website's purpose from a user perspective (e.g., What can I do here?)
- Don't talk about corporate intentions and strategies. Only performance matters.
