Microsoft Settlement: Protect Producers and Consumers, Not Moochers and Looters by Kristoffer Bohmann

Anti-Microsofters and anti-capitalists use morally bankrupt concepts in their pursuit for government intervention in the Microsoft settlement. Defenders of Microsoft must base their arguments on corporate property rights to establish a strong and consistent argument.

Technological change in the software industry

Jan Karlsbjerg from Department of Computer Science at Aalborg University, Denmark, says:
In the paragraph starting with I disagree with Economides' argument... Do you think that the market for software is a market without fast technological change and without network effects?
Kristoffer Bohmann answers:
No, speed of technological change in the software industry is very high and network effects are significant. I disagree with Economides because his argument isn't valid across all markets. That is, not in markets characterized by slow technological change and insignificant network effects. Antitrust legislation must be based on legal principles that apply to all markets to avoid arbitrary legislation. Economides' argument would only add more fuzziness to todays arbitrary antitrust legislation in the US and EU.
